Set the scene
With a little work, any backyard can be transformed into the perfect picnic setting. Hanging lanterns, potted plants, and streamers are all ways to create an inviting and festive atmosphere
Timing is everything
Time of day matters when it comes to summer celebrations. The sun can be quite intense at the end of May. Three hours before sunset is typically the optimal time for comfortable picnic weather.

The Stella Stoneware Collection
To create an atmosphere that’s fun with a hint of sophistication, consider the Stella Collection. Its minimalistic design and soft hues will elevate your picnic from casual to chic.
For a more personal look, create your own unique setting by mixing and matching pieces from both the Stella and Delilah settings.
After setting up your table setting, add some fresh blossoms or greenery around the table to brighten the mood and bring out all the rich colors of your meal.
Picnic food should be light, easy to eat, and flavorful.
Bruschetta is the ideal option because it can be embellished with a wide range of toppings for a rich dining experience.
For easy serving, prepare the bread in advance and add toppings immediately before serving.
Here are two of our favorite Bruschetta Recipes:
Sautéed Mushroom Bruschetta
Sauté the minced garlic cloves in olive oil over medium-high heat until fragrant. Add mushrooms and season with salt and pepper.
Reduce the heat to medium and cook the mushrooms for about 10 minutes, stirring often. Add the fresh parsley and thyme and cook for another 3 minutes.
Serve the warm mushrooms on top of the bread slices.
Tomato Basil Bruschetta
- Italian Bread Sliced and toasted
- 2 cloves of garlic (whole)
- ½ pound of ripe tomatoes (about 4 medium ones)
- 2 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and Pepper
Halve the tomatoes and discard most of the seeds.
Chop the tomatoes into chunks and add to a bowl with a generous pinch of salt and a small pinch of pepper.
Add the olive oil and basil.
Stir and let sit for 10 minutes.
While the toasted bread is still warm, rub it with garlic (two strokes per slice).
Top bruschetta with tomatoes and season again if needed.
No drink better encapsulates the feeling of summer than sangria. The bright fruity scent and refreshing flavors will immediately put your guests in a festive mood.
Sangria recipes don’t have to be complicated to be delicious. Here is one of our favorites.

- 1 cup fresh strawberries (halved)
